A large winged humanoid with glowing red eyes reported in West Virginia from 1966 to 1967, rumored to be connected to the Silver Bridge collapse.

The Mothman is a winged humanoid cryptid reportedly seen by numerous residents near Point Pleasant, West Virginia, between November 1966 and December 1967. Described as roughly seven feet tall with a wingspan exceeding ten feet and large glowing red eyes, more than 100 sightings were reported over a 13-month period.
Two couples driving near an abandoned TNT factory reported encountering a large winged creature with red eyes. They claimed the creature chased their car at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. The Point Pleasant sheriff's office held a press conference the next day, and a local newspaper coined the name "Mothman."
On December 15, 1967, while Mothman sightings were ongoing, the Silver Bridge connecting Point Pleasant to Kanauga collapsed during rush hour, killing 46 people. This gave rise to the legend that the Mothman was an omen of disaster.
